A monumental 8-part patinated bronze okimono 置物 depicting a minogame 蓑亀, carrying an ancient pine tree and a family of cranes.

The mythical long-tailed turtle (minogame), a traditional symbol of longevity and good fortune, forms the impressive base of the composition. Upon its richly textured shell rises a weathered pine tree (matsu 松), its broad canopy sheltering a nest woven amongst the branches. Resting within the nest are four large eggs, carefully guarded by a devoted pair of red-crowned cranes (tsuru 鶴), another enduring emblem of longevity, fidelity and prosperity.

The tree is further enlivened by plum branches twisting along the trunk, and rocky outcrops around the base, while a group of small turtles climbs over the minogame’s shell, reinforcing the auspicious symbolism of long life and enduring generations.

Cast in 8 pieces in bronze with a rich dark patina.
