Pair of hardwood ornaments carved as shishi 獅子 (guardian lions)
Price on request
A striking pair of hardwood ornaments carved as shishi 獅子 (guardian lions). Their elongated reclined bodies rest on powerful paws, while their heads lift with bulging eyes, open mouths and prominent fangs. Deeply carved manes and tightly curled tails.
Inserts along the sides and openings on top suggest that the shishi once formed part of a larger construction, possibly serving as its feet or supports. They now make an impressive pair in their own right.
