A captivating, tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) featuring a refined painting depicting scenes from The Tale of Genji 源氏物語 (Genji Monogatari).

The artwork captures elegantly dressed aristocrats engaging in leisurely pastimes around the Rokujô estate, such as admiring a hanging scroll painting laid out across the floor. Shimmering gold-leaf clouds envelop the scenes, while distant mountain peaks emerge along the horizon

This multi-coloured painting is executed on a paper background with gold leaf highlights and is framed by two silk borders: a slender grey band and a broader blue band adorned with a floral motif. The panels are encased in a black lacquered wooden frame fitted with copper protective hardware.
