Patinated bronze vase by Akita Taketani 秋田竹谷

A unique and beautiful light brown patinated bronze vase with a cone shaped neck, a rounded body and a tapered bottom. The entire vase is covered by an icy blue mottled layer through which shines a vibrant red murashidô motive. On one side the vase is inlaid with very fine silver lines in the shape of lotus leaves.

Including original signed wooden tomobako (storage box). The box is signed by the contemporary artist Akita Taketani 秋田竹谷.

The vase is in a very good condition. The vase is suitable to be used as a flower vase.

Murashidô is a term used to describe the tradition of dipping hot bronze in oil immediately after firing and then smoking with rice straw. The result is a beautiful unique dappled red bronze finish.
This technique was developed in Japan during the early 20th century, Shôwa period.
