Ensemble of two attractive small bronze vases by the artist Hasegawa Gasen 長谷川雅山 (1901-1994).
1) Fine light brown patinated small bronze baluster shaped vase with a vibrant unique red murashidô and a green patinated motive.

2) Elegant and elongated brown patinated small bronze diablo-shaped vase with a lovely red murashidô.
Height 16.1 cm, Diameter Ø 5.2 cm
Weight: 0.351 kg
Both marked with a seal on the bottom reading ‘Gasen’ 雅山 (1901-1994). The diablo-shaped one with a inscription surrounding the seal.
Shōwa period (1926-1989)

Gasen exhibited in numerous prestigious shows including National Nitten exhibition and received multiply prizes and acknowledgments for his unique works. The Nitten is the most popular and prestigious art organization in Japan, with only best artists from all over Japan participating in its annual exhibitions.
Murashidô is a term used to describe the tradition of dipping hot bronze in oil immediately after firing and then smoking with rice straw. The result is a beautiful unique dappled red bronze finish.
This technique was developed in Japan during the early 20th century, Shôwa period.
