Pair of high quality cast iron chôshi 銚子 (sake ewers) with a detailed lacquered lid. Its body with a refined embossed design of a bird of prey 猛鳥 (môchô) perched on a stand and on the reverse a stylized pine tree 松 (matsu).
The black lacquered lids with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design): one with a crane 鶴 (tsuru) flying above a plum blossom tree 梅 (ume), the other with a pair of cranes flying above a pine tree. Both lids with a white metal knob.
The spout with a white metal lining, and the loop handles decorated with a subtle embossed karakusa (scrolling foliage) design. Both standing on three low feet.
The body is signed ‘Image of Sei’ô’ 晴王画.
Approx. dimensions:
Height 15 cm, Width 17.3 cm, Depth 12.1 cm.
Period: Japan – Early Meiji period (Second half 19th century).
Both in a very good condition with minimal traces consistent with age. The kettles have been tested to see if they leaks, and there is no leakage. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
Including original wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box).
