Large sky blue modern vase

Magnificent oval shaped stoneware vase decorated with a granular deep blue colour (seirōsai) called: ‘ginga yō’ (far away galaxy)’ by Andō Hironobu (1940), a potter from Gifu province. The inside of this heavy vase is light blue and shows partly an impressed motive. Abstract bottom mark. Including original signed wooden box and a set of postcards of this vase and another vase by the artist, and with a leaflet with a listing of the career of the artist and miscalenous paperwork.

Potters biography: Born in 1940.
Graduated from Tajimi Technical High School. Received many awards at the Nitten Chunichi Prize and the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, including the Kato Kohei Prize. A member of the Nitten Club. Member of the Japan Federation of New Craft Artists. Director of the Birou Ceramics Association. Former director of Gifu Ceramic Designers’ Association. Member of Gifu Prefecture Ceramics Artists Association.
