Bizen’ware stoneware vase

An alluring discus-shaped Bizen’ware brown stoneware vase with a translucent grey craquelé glaze and a free-form lobed edge. The wavy lines continue upwards like ribs over the shoulder towards the small upright mouth.

Sealed at the bottom by the artist Matsumoto Yasuto 松本康人 (1921-?). An artist from Bizen. Studied under Kusaka Shunyo and Arao Tsunezo of Kyo ware in 1946. Later worked at a brick company managed by his elder brother, started an ascending kiln and square kiln for firing celadon in Wake, Okayama in 1972. Held private exhibitions in the Tobu in Ikebukuro and around the country.

Shōwa period (1926-1989).
It is in a very good condition.
