Large Shigaraki’yaki 信楽焼 ceramic frog 蛙 (kaeru)

Charming and large Shigaraki’yaki 信楽焼 ceramic sculpture in the shape of a frog 蛙 (kaeru) with two baby frogs resting on its back. The brown ceramic with lovely grey/white dripping glaze running over the backs of the frogs.

In Japan, the frog, (蛙, kaeru), is symbolic of fertility and good fortune, and as the word in Japanese means “to return” (帰る), frogs can be linked with things/or people returning to their place of origin.
