Kutani incense burner

Captivating and uncommon octagonal polychrome ko’kutani’ware porcelain incense burner with a seated kirin 麒麟 (mythical creature) on top. When used, the smoke from the incense will rise from the mouth of the kirin, and come from a whole underneath it.

The censer is decorated with garden scenes in cartouches, surrounded by geometrical patterns. The sides of the body with a pair of kirin-mascarons holding a ring.

Standing on eight console-shaped legs, which all are connected by a thin base.

This piece has several old defects and old repairs. Please take a close look for a clear representation of its condition.
