Japanese house-kôro 香炉

Large and very rare Japanese ko-kutani-style porcelain kôro 香炉 (censer) in two parts shaped like a traditional Japanese two-storied thatched house with a large balustrade. Enamelled in the typical colour scheme of vibrant green, yellow, blue and aubergine.
A loose porcelain figure with blue glaze of an old man sitting in seiza can be placed in the rooms with opened doors on the second floor.

In a good restored condition with traces of wear and age. The corners of the upper part with large hairlines, and the bars of the window from the lower part with some defects and two with restorations. This part has a corner chip from the alley door. Please take a close look at the detail photos for a clear condition reference.

Period: Kutani, Japan – Late Edo period (First half 19th century).
