Charming cast iron chôshi 銚子 (sake kettle) with a detailed lacquered lid, raised by three low feet. Its rotund body with a refined embossed design of drips cascading down the sides.

The black lacquered lid with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) depicting flowering chrysanthemums surrounded by scrolling eaves. Surmounted by a silver-coloured brass knob shaped like a kiku as well.
The loop handle with a subtle silver inlay design of scrolling vines.

Period: Japan – Late Edo period (First half 19th century).

Approx. dimensions:
Height with handle 16.5 cm, Height 12.5 cm, Width 17 cm, Depth 13 cm.

Considering its age in a very good condition with some minor traces of wear conform age. Tested to see if it leaks, and there is no sign of leakage. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
