Okimono 3 bronze crabs on driftwood
Price: € 650,00
A striking ensemble of three patinated bronze crabs 蟹 (kani) of varying sizes, displayed on an elongated black lacquered wooden base with an irregular, weathered form reminiscent of driftwood.
Each crab is modelled with considerable naturalism, with individually articulated legs, prominent claws and finely worked surfaces to the shells and undersides. Their dark bronze patina shows subtle variations in tone.
The three crabs are arranged at different levels across the wood, creating a lively composition suggestive of crabs moving across a piece of driftwood along the shoreline.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868–1912).
Dimensions:
Largest crab: Height 6 cm, Width 19 cm, Depth 7.5 cm.
