Very large bronze figure of Emperor Jimmu 神武天皇

Impressive, very large patinated bronze okimono 置物 depicting Emperor Jimmu 神武天皇 (Jinmu’tennô), who was the legendary first emperor of Japan.

This imposing figure stands tall, gazing into the distance, his simple robe billowing in the wind. With a wild beard, bushy moustache, and neatly tied buns of hair, he carries a long sword at his side, a filled quiver on his back, and a long bow, made of iron, adorned with a bird-shaped ornament in his hand. The bird with some gilding at the underside.

Sealed at the back, presumably reading: ‘Suwa Yoshinobu’ 諏訪美信.

Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).

Height figure 69 cm, Height including bow 93 cm, Width 36 cm, Depth 34 cm.
Weight 27 kg.

In a very good condition with some traces of wear conform age. Small dent on the top of his head. The bow, string and bird are all separate pieces. Please have a look at the photos for a condition reference.
