Cast iron tea kettle 茶釜 (chagama)
Price: € 420,00
A charming heavy cast iron tea kettle 茶釜 (chagama) with a dome-shaped bronze furo 風炉 (portable brazier).
The chagama is fitted with a bronze lid topped with an open plum-shaped knob 菊 (kiku). On either side are two subtly modelled, stylised dragon-shaped open ears fitted with ‘kan’ 鐶 (twisted open spirals of heavy metal wire used for lifting).
The kettle rests securely on the rim of the brazier, supported by three short tapered feet. This rim is decorated with an elegant openwork design of dots and stylized leafs.
The bronze furo features two opposing openings, one shaped as a Buddhist flame and the other in the form of a mokkô (melon). The sides are fitted with handles modelled as the heads of mythical beasts holding rings. Patinated in a warm brown patina. A small seal is present on the side of the kama.
The set is complete with its original wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box), inscribed in ink.
