Very large copper hand mirror 柄鏡 (e’kakami) with an embossed family crest design, placed on a lacquered stand 鏡立て (kagami’tate).

The hand mirror boasts a large crest, known as ‘mon’ 紋, depicting a butterfly 蝶 (chô). Placed amidst a lush flower garden. Along the left side a signature: “杢村因幡守籐原重義”.
The reverse with a shimmering silver-plated surface. The handle wrapped in rattan.
Including original black lacquer wooden kagami’bako (mirror box).

The black lacquered fold-able stand of traditional shape and adorned with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) crests. The feet laced together with bright orange silk cords with a decorative tassel.

Period: Japan – 19th century (Late Edo period/Meiji period).

Mirror: Length 34.5 cm, Width 24.5 cm, Depth 0.5 cm, Weight 956 gram.
Stand: Height 66 cm, Width 31.6 cm, Depth 34.5 cm.
