Very high quality and elegant gold and black lacquered wooden clothing rack 衣桁 (ikô), mostly used for official displaying kimono.
The points of the upper beam of this rectangular detachable frame decorated with scrolling karakusa 唐草 (foliage) rendered in gold hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief design). The sides of the same beam are decorated with a golden maki-e crest 紋 (mon) depicting three flower diamonds 花菱 (hanabishi).
The base of the vertical beams are also decorated with scrolling foliage, and fitted with chrysanthemum-shaped hardware. The protruding sides of the sturdy feet are also featured with shaped golden metal fittings engraved with a scrolling foliage design.
The ikô is in fair condition with all over traces of age and wear. Though it is still a lovely and well-made piece with a considerable age. Please look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
