This furisode is made from light teal silk and has been hand painted with an intricate multicoloured design of a great variety of blooming flowers and leaves, like chrysanthemums 菊 (kiku). Between the flowers are also mirrored flying Japanese cranes 鶴 (tsuru) visible. The decoration has been nicely accentuated in places with shimmering paint and embroidery done by hand. On a few places the kimono is also subtly decorated with a crest depicting three oak leaves with vines in a circle.
The designs are executed in all, mostly soft, different colors of the rainbow. The lining is made of a combination of white and salmon pink silk.

A furisode (振袖, lit., “swinging sleeves”) is a style of kimono distinguishable by its long sleeves. Furisode are the most formal style of kimono worn by young women in Japan. In the present day, furisode are by default considered to be formalwear, despite the existence of some yukata (informal summer kimono) with furisode-style sleeves; the furisode is generally worn for formal social functions such as tea ceremonies and weddings.
