A nice and charming 2-piece granite Kominka Gata Ishidōrō 古民家形石灯篭 (Japanese traditional house-shaped stone lantern).

This is a very rare and unique Japanese stone lantern. Kominka is a word that describes old traditional Japanese folk homes. (From Yokoso gardens).

The top is shaped as a high thatched roof with a small extension at the front. The lower part has an openwork door and a water wheel in relief. The sides with four openwork squares that represent the windows. The back is open so you can easily place the light source in it.

The granite lantern is completely chiselled by hand and has a nice aged patina. It is in a very good condition. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.

The age of these granite lanterns is difficult to determine. We think that is 100 – 150 years old (Meiji period or older). Because of the soft outline and also because of the visible impact of being outside and the influence of weather elements for many many year, we think it might be older too. But again it is impossible to proof.

Height 36.5 cm, Width 33.5 cm, Depth 26 cm.

Shipping of this stone lantern is relatively easy. We will use a wooden pallet and good packing for safe transport.
When shipped we will also add a certificate of authenticity.
