Chōzubachi (手水鉢)

Price:  550,00

Large and heavy original waterbassin: A Chōzubachi (手水鉢). With a rough natural texture on the outside and smooth on the inside. Made of granite stone in multiple variations of grey.
Chōzubachi can be seen in the traditional Japanese garden.
The age of this granite bassin is difficult to determine.
We can establish this example has been hand-cut because of the rough outside and soft outline. Also one can see the impact of being outside and the influence of weather elements for many, many years.
It is used for the ritual washing of the hands and rinsing of the mouth before a person is allowed to participate in the tea ceremony or enter holy grounds such as Buddhist temples or Shinto shrines.
Loosely translated Chōzubachi means “waterbassin for the hands”.(from: Yokoso Japanese gardens).
When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
