Chôzu’bachi is an ornament with a water reservoir commonly found in traditional Japanese gardens. Used for ritual hand washing and mouth cleansing before a person is allowed to participate in the tea ceremony or enter sacred ground such as a Buddhist temple or Shinto shrine. Chôzubachi freely translated means water reservoir for the hands. (From: Yokoso Japanese Gardens)
