Antique and fantastic medium-sized six panel room divider 屏風 (byôbu) with a painting of a luscious flower garden, with flowers like pink tree peonies 牡丹 (botan), white 野菊 (nogiku), and fringed pink carnations 撫子 (nadeshiko), on an oxidized silver leaf background. Silver leaf continuously undergoes the process of oxidation, which creates a beautiful aged patina, as in this case.
This screen shows signs of old repairs and general wear. Please see pictures.
The paintings of the flowers are all very nicely detailed.
The screen has a red negoro-style lacquered wooden frame. The backside of the screen with green/grey paper with a geometrical pattern.
This room divider is light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall as one large piece of art. Approx. 100 years old.
