A vibrant and large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) with a refined continuous painting on gold leaf of various birds flying above a rich flower garden.

Several tree sparrows, a pair of Java sparrows, and a pair of warbling white-eye fly peacefully above a calm river with a flower garden next to its bank. The garden is filled with all sorts of different blooming flowers, like blue bell flowers 桔梗 (kikyô), red lespedeza 萩 (hagi), white daffodils 水仙 (suisen) and large pink rosemallow 芙蓉 (fuyô).

Mounted by two silk borders, a thin white brocade one, and a broad navy brocade one. Protected by a black lacquer frame with its original hardware.
Meiji-period – 19th centurywear and old restorations. Please take a close look at the photo of a restored hole in the right panel, and at the photos of some restorations of the gold leaf on the left.
