Two panel silverleaf roomdivider (byobu). SIlverleaf undergoes through time a continuous oxidation proces. This can develop a nice aged patina, as is the case with this screen. This lightly oxidated screen is showing its original square pattern of silverleaf. In Japan regularly seen in hotels and often used as a background for example for vases with ikebana arrangements or other traditional objects like as a background for a Samurai armor. Mounted in a lacquered wooden frame. Some light signs of age and ware and two damages in the paper on the back side. Please see last picture. Also sold and used for painters to make their own piece of art. And because of the limited weight it could also be hanged easily flat on a wall. Total width: 172,6 cm (2 x 86,3 cm). Height: 173 cm. Japan – Taishō period (1912-1926).
