Middle-sized 6-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) with a chicken family

A charming middle-sized six-panel room divider with a refined polychrome painting of a rooster with its family amidst a luscious flower garden.
The garden is filled with all sorts of different blooming flowers, like a different types of chrysanthemum flowers 菊 (kiku), lespedeza 萩 (hagi), pampas grasses ススキ (susuki), and asters 野菊 (nogkiku).
The multi-coloured painting is set on a paper background, and the flowers are painted by using shell paste 胡粉 (gofun) in low relief.
Surrounded by two silk borders, a beige thin one, and a moss green broad one with a swan motif. Protected by a black lacquer frame.
The flowers are made with “Gofun” this is shell paste and gives a high relief to the flowers. The screen has a black lacquered wooden frame and has some traces of age and wear but overall in good condition, see photo’s.

These kind of room-dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art. The smaller size makes this one also very suitable for most Western interiors.
