Six panel byobu-screen autumn flowers

Price:  2.300,00

A very beautiful 6-panel byobu-screen with a refined continuous painting of different autumn flowers, like white chrysanthemum flowers 菊 (kiku) and some hidden blue aster flowers 野菊 (nogiku) amidst pampas grasses 薄 (susuki). Most of the plants bent slightly to the left as if a light breeze is blowing through the culms. Some of the chrysanthemum flowers have just blossomed, while other flower buds are still eagerly growing, and on the verge of budding. The serene touch of the painting is reminiscent of the style of the Rinpa-school.

The painting is set on a gold leaf background. The golden clouds at the top and the bottom have more of a shimmer than the central part.

Some parts of the gold are slightly oxidized, please check the pictures for a good representation. The screen and the painting is overall in very good condition.

The chrysanthemum flowers are extra accentuated by being executed in shell paste 胡粉 (gofun) in low relief.

The screen has a dark brocade border and is protected by a black lacquered frame with its original hardware. Late Meiji-period.

This room-divider is light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
