Serene large two-panel byôbu 屏風

Price:  1.400,00

A captivating and serene large two-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) with a painting of a bamboo forest at the bend of a rocky river. This multi-coloured painting is set on a silver leaf background with a subtle craquelé pattern. An uncommon piece, as it is probably made by a Chinese artist in a Japanese style (in Japan).

It is a healthy forest where a lot of plants flourish. In between the bamboo a large grotesque tree towers out. Many bunches of red flowers grow on the ground and between the rocks. These rocks are overgrown with vibrant green foliage.

On the right side the room divider is signed and sealed by the artist Tian Quankang 天泉康, and he states that he made this painting during his 73th year 七十又三齡.

It is protected by a brown wooden frame.

The screen is in a very good condition with some traces of age and wear at the corners. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.

Total width: 138.0 cm (2 x 69.0 cm); Height: 152.2 cm.
Taishō period (1912-1926).
This room divider is light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
