Screen with a mounted warrior “Atsumori”

Two panel byobu-screen with a dynamic polychrome painting of a mounted warrior Atsumori fleeing into a river for and other mounted warrior (a scene from the Heike monogatari), signed and sealed: Shunsui, an often used go-name. Probably the Kyoto Nihonga-style painter Kawabata Shunsui (1882-1934). The warriors on their horses are very well painted with lots of detailing and variations in color. See photo’s.
Some minor signs of watertraces and age, please look at the last photo’s.
The byobu has a black lacquered frame strengthened the corners with decorative hardware. The backside of the screen is restored with a green backing.

Taishō period (1912-1926).
These kind of room-dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
