Byobu with pine tree forest
Price: € 3.800,00
Refined and large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) with a painting of a dense pine tree forest. The abundant bushes of needles almost look like waves, with here and there a glimpse of the moss-covered whimsical tree trunks. Placed on a beautiful contrasting gold leaf background.
The panels are mounted by two silk borders, a thin navy blue brocade one, and a broad light brown one. Protected by a black lacquer wooden frame with its original hardware.
Total width: 364.6 cm (2 x 61.9 and 4 x 60.2 cm); Height: 168.9 cm. D. 1.7
Meiji period (1868-1912)
Considering its age it is in a good condition with traces of age, wear and old restorations. Unfortunately, the paper is torn in some places due to the influence of heat and dryness. Luckily these are mainly thin stripes, so it doesn’t detract from the scene. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
In Japanese culture, the evergreen pine tree is known to represent longevity, good fortune and steadfastness. It is commonly linked with virtue and long life, even immortality.
This room divider is very light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
