Byobu with koi 鯉
Price: € 1.600,00
An attractive large two-panel byôbu 屏風 (room divider) with a refined painting of a pond with three koi 鯉 (carps) and an abundant garden at the edge. This multi-coloured painting is set on a slightly oxidized silver leaf background. Silver leaf continuously undergoes the process of oxidation, which creates a beautiful aged patina.
The three black koi look up at the flower garden at the edge of the pond, one still completely submerged, but another already with his head above the water.
Around the rock grow flowers, like; white and pink tree peonies 牡丹 (botan), and small blue violets 菫 (sumire). Above, on a branch with red leaves sits a blue Japanese bird 四十雀 (Shijûkara).
On the left side the room divider has an auspicious poem, and is signed and sealed by the artist.
It is protected by a red lacquer wooden frame.
The screen is in a very good condition with some traces of age and wear. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
Total width: 190.8 cm (2 x 95.4 cm); Height: 173.2 cm.
