Impressive two panel byobu-screen with a polychrome painting on silk depicting grey and white-and-orange Nishikikoji fishes swimming in water with their shadows below them.
The fish are very well painted with lots of details in subtle colors. The shadows under the fish and the darker area below, suggesting the bottom of the pond, give the painting depth and perspective.
Dated Showa 27 (1952) and signed and sealed in the right corner below by the artist: Hôshun.
The painting has a brocade mounting with some signs of age and wear and a black lacquered frame in good condition. With a dark green backing, with some paper missing, see photo’s.
The painting itself is in very good condition. Shōwa period (1926-1989).
These kind of room-dividers are light in weight and can also be easily mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
