Mid-size silver six panel byōbu depicting a tranquil spring landscape
Price: € 2.100,00
An elegant mid-size six panel byōbu depicting a tranquil spring landscape, painted in delicate ink and colour washes. Distant misty hills and water create a soft, atmospheric background, while flowering plum (ume) branches with white blossoms dominate the foreground. Small blue-and-white birds enliven the composition, one captured in flight and another perched among the flowering branches. Bamboo and a simple lattice fence complete the scene below.
The restrained palette and open composition give the screen a light and intimate character. Plum blossom, one of the first flowers to appear at the end of winter, is a traditional symbol of renewal, perseverance and the arrival of spring. Together with the small birds, it creates an auspicious seasonal scene celebrating the changing of the seasons.
Mounted with a dark blue silk brocade border decorated with gold floral scrolls and a narrow gold inner border, in keeping with traditional byōbu presentation.
