Red lacquered Yoroi

An iron and partly red lacquered suit-of-armour (yoroi) with dark blue cords and a two-piece cuirass (kurenai’urushinuri nôkon’ito yokohagi nimaidô gusoku). And an eigth-plate iron hoshikabuto-helmet with large back bending fukikaeshi covered with imitation smoked leather, three red lacquered neck-guards (shikoro) and in front a pair of kuwagata-antlers with in the middle a maedate in the shape of the character ‘Mae’ 前 (“in front”). The Kanji “Mae” meaning “the first”; in other words: “I, who has priority above others”. At the back of the helmet an orange tassel.

A red facial mask of an angry looking old man face with a brown and white moustache (resseibô) from which hangs a small red lacquered three piece gorget (nodowa). The shoulders are protected by red lacquered five-piece sode with dark blue cords and an orange hem. And the arms with red lacquered Japanese mail and metal strips over dark brown brocade with a flower design (shinokote).

A plain two-piece bucket-shaped cuirass with domed rivets (okegawa nimaidô). From the cuirass hangs a six-part five-piece kusazuri-skirt. Around the waist of the cuirass a purple silk waistband with a flower motive (uwaobi).

The haidate that protect the upper legs consists of red lacquered laced metal karuta-plates over a similar brocade. The suneate that protect the lower legs consist of red lacquered vertical metal pieces (shinosuneate) connected with Japanese mail.

In a black wooden box for a suit-of-armour.

The armour is in a nice original condition with some minor signs of age and wear.
