An amazing all-matching, complete Japanese gold, silver & black lacquered ô’yoroi (great suit-of-armour) with orange cords with a triangle-design in the centre in white and purple, a multicoloured and crimson hem (kin’urushinuri hi’ito kurenai’suso omodaka’odoshi nimai’dô tôsei gusoku) featuring a crest 紋 (mon) depicting a ‘5-7-5 paulownia’s’-crest 五七桐紋 (go-shichi kiri mon), and with a signature.

– 32-plate zaboshi’bachi ‘russet iron’ kabuto (helmet with seated rivets) gilt wooden maedate shaped like the decorative top of a uma-jirushi 馬印 (battle standard), flanked by short gilt metal kuwagata-antlers with an engraved feather pattern.
Large 6-tiered chrysanthemum-shaped tehen’no’kanamono (decorative apex fitting), and 4-tiered gold & black lacquer ‘hon’kozane’-plate shikoro (neck guards) transcending into very wide back-bending fukikaeshi (face guards) covered with light decorative ‘smoked leather’ and fitted with the paulownia-crest in a chrysanthemum-shaped medallion. En-suite appliques are placed at the corners of the shikoro.
The interior signed: ‘Kôka, year 3, made by Myôchin’ 弘化三年信家作, Anno 1846.

– Black-lacquered ‘angry man’-facial mask (resseibô) with a separate nose-piece featuring a grey moustache above a long goatee and a 2-tiered gold&black lacquered ‘hon’kozane’-plate gorget (yodare’kake) fitted with a matching crest-applique.
– Throat guard (nodawa), 2-tiers of ‘hon’kozane’-plates hanging from a ‘smoked leather’ border and crest-applique.
– Sode (shoulder guards), ô-type, constructed with 6 laced ‘hon’kozane’-plates, fitted crest appliques in the corners, and adorned with orange silk cords with decorative tassels.
– Kote (bracer), rare yoshitsune-type, two large black lacquer metal plates with gilt metal details protect the upper- and lower arm. These plates, the D-shaped tekkô (hand guards) and the protective elbow discs all fitted with paulownia crests. Placed over dark, silver brocade silk with an scrolling foliage design.
– Dô (cuirass), constructed in honkozane-plates and hinged in two pieces. The front with a pair and the back with a very large age’maki (decorative tassel) strung from en-suite cord-rings.
From the shoulders hang a matching set of a sendannoita (‘satinwood-board’) and a kyûbinoita (dovetail-board).

Hanging from the bottom is a 7-parts of 5-piece ‘hon’kozane’-plate kusazuri (tassets).
– Haidate (thigh armour) of 6-rows of silver lacquered ‘hon’kozane’-plates laced omodaka’odoshi, placed over matching silk and leather borders. Lined with matching silk and leather with some traces of gilding.
– Suneate (shin guards), Edo period tsubo-type, with greatly protruding wing-like metal tateage (knee guards). The plates are connected by butterfly-shaped hinges. Fully decorated with red scrolling vines over a gold lacquered base. Fitted with the paulownia-crests, and with shishi (temple lions) beneath. – Kegutsu (fur shoes) of brown ‘boar’-skin with a silk border and a blue cotton lining and an green cord. Gilded leather soles.

Complete with a large rectangular brown lacquered store-box for an ô’yoroi (kara’bitsu) raised by 6 spreading feet.
