Katana kake, stand

Price:  550,00

A striking katana kake 刀掛け (katana rack stand) with a base made out of naturally shaped wood and a deer horn sword holder.
The holder and base are easily detachable from each other.
Large stand for a Daisho set: Katana and tanto. A Daisho set refers to the act of carrying two swords: a large and small sword. Samurai warriors in feudal Japan discovered that carrying a large sword and a small sword gave them a competitive advantage over their enemies on the battlefield.
The base is made out of a distinctive tree root, with prominent rustic tree knots on the right side.
The antler holder is from a sika deer (Cervus nippon), a species of deer native to much of East Asia and introduced to other parts of the world (from Wikipedia).
A very exclusive and solid piece with already quite some history of nearly 100 years, and in original good condition.

Taishō period (1912-1926).
