Set of ivery old antique iron stirrups “shitabanga abumi” allover decorated with flowers outlined in gilt colored bronze and silver inlay. The interiors are covered with red lacquer. There are some losses and signs of age and wear as may be expected. The buckle tangs are still present and moving. Exceptionally inlaid on the reverse side with Daikon – radish root. See last picture. more then 350 years old.
Joba, the Japanese art of riding a horse required a specific techniques to keep balance. The upper body should stay still and the horse’s movement is controlled at knee level, requiring a strong foot support. Therefore, Japanese stirrups are heavier than their European counterparts.
