A red lacquered zunari kabuto (helmet) with a lion mask (shishi) maedate (decorative front piece).
The three-plate bowl, mabizashi (visor), fukugaeshi (face guard), and four-lame shikoro (neck guard) all lacquered red, the bowl mounted at the top with a four-tiered chrysanthemum-form tehen kanamono (top fixture), the fukugaeshi decorated in gold hiramaki-e with a crest depicting Japanese ivy within a circle (maru ni tsuta), the mabizashi mounted with a boldly carved lion mask lacquered in roughened black, red and gold, the beast has a fierce expression marked by large bulging eyes and thick scrolling brows, the mouth with a row of teeth flanked by fangs.
