Samurai flat black travelling hat (ichimonji gasa) with a family crest depicting crossed cloves (maru ni choji mon – 丸に違い丁子).

With some remnants of the original goldleaf, and some cracks in the lacquer.

Probably originating from Kyushu – the South West of Japan. Edo period.
