Nice jingasa 陣笠 (ancient soldier’s hat) executed in even matt black lacquer 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi). The reverse has a bit more extravagant design, as it is decorated with large pieces of scattered gold leaf with tiny gold flakes in between.
The hat is circular and flat of shape with a dome in the centre.
The bottom featured with red silk cords to keep the helmet in place.
Approx. size:
Height 6 cm, Diameter 41.6 cm.
Period: Japan – Late Edo period/Early Meiji period (19th century).
Considering its age the helmet is in a very good original condition with minimal traces of wear conform age, like minimal rim chips and wear of the silk.. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
