Very large sculpture of Guanyin
Price: € 700,00
A very large sculpture carved impressively from one solid piece of tree trunk depicting the bodhisattva Kannon 観音, the Goddess of Mercy, also known as Avalokiteshvara or Guanyin. We suspect the trunk is eucalyptus wood.
Her delicately put up hair is crowned by jewellery and covered by a cloth. She sits quietly on the edge of the tree trunk, one leg pulled up as she calmly pours water from a vase. This vase contains pure water which is capable of relieving suffering and sickness. Her other feet rests on an small open lotus.
She is accompanied by more of her common attributes; a dragon holding a pearl swirls around her, a padme (lotus bud) sprouts on the side, and at the other side a small karako (Chinese child) climbs up towards her.
Behind her you can see the lower half of a bamboo grove.
In a very good condition with some minor chips on one side. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
