A superb and rare pair of temple offering stands shaped like lotus flowers executed in gilding and red and black lacquer.

The Lotus holds great significance in Buddhism as a symbol of purity. These lotus flowers are at different stages of their life (unfurled lotus leaves, buds and blooms) and symbolize the journey towards Buddhist enlightenment.

The offering dish is shaped like a large gilded blooming lotus flower with a red-lacquered saucer-shaped hearth. Its detailed stem surrounded by three stalks surmounted by different shaped lotus flower and leaves. Raised by an domed black lacquer lotus leaf with gilded veins, placed on a red lacquer base.

Dimensions:
Height 39.5 cm, Width 24 cm, Depth 20 cm.
Period: Japan – 19th century (Edo period).

In a very good original condition with minimal traces conform age, like some minimal lacquer loss. One small chip from a point of one of the bases. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
