Impressive rectangular low table 座卓

Impressive rectangular low table 座卓 (zataku) featuring shiny black lacquer with a beautiful design of a close-up of a serene river environment. Along the riverbank, a long fishing boat is docked at a pier, surrounded by lush reeds. The left corner of the scene reveals a glimpse of a pier pole emerging from the water. The river stretches wide, with only a small portion of the opposite shore visible in the upper left corner. Executed in different shades of silver and golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design). The top surface is elevated by four sturdy black lacquered feet.

Height 33.5 cm, Length 151.5 cm, Depth 91 cm. Top height 4.8 cm.
Period: Japan – 60s-70s (Shôwa period).

Signed on the bottom in gold lacquer ‘Made by Utsuki/Kaigetsu’ 海月作.
