Refined wickerwork susutake 煤竹 (‘smoked bamboo’) hexagonal ikebana basket 花籠 (hanakago) with a loop handle, and with a nice warm brown patina.
The basket is complexly plaited with very thin bamboo strips in a vertical fashion on the upper part transcending into a diagonally fashion, known as ‘Compound Lozenge Plaiting’ 四つ目返し (yotsume gaeshi).
In the centre, a segment vase is placed on a high-quality executed woven ‘platform’. The bamboo segment vase is lacquered black, and can be used for flower arrangements
The basket rests on a stable hexagonal foot made from a single strip of bamboo.
Signed on the bottom by the artist ‘Made by Chikufû’ 竹風作.
The flower basket is in a good original condition. One binding of the handle missing. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
