Large globular teapot

The robust – larger than normally – globular teapot has a short curved spout with a silver rim and is fitted with an overhead handle. The handle has small silver drops on it. The bulbous sides have high relief casts depicting a fly-whisk, sack, drum and various other attributes like a legendary Japanese “magic hammer” which can “tap out” anything wished for. On the other side a calligraphy meaning Kotobuki “Long life ” and “Congratulations”.
The flat bronze cover has a chrysanthemum-shaped finial.
It has a dark patina and shows some signs of age and wear, it is signed “Watanabe”.
The kettle has been tested and it is not leaking. The weight is 2834 gram. Late Edo period.
