Lacquer hirobuta 広蓋 (tray)

Large and high quality black lacquer hirobuta 広蓋 (tray) with a fine silver rim and rounded corners. The outside of the high sides with a beautiful gold lacquered hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 design of flowers and leaves.

The hirobuta is in a good condition with only some minor rim chips. Please see the photos as a reference. The black lacquer is still very vibrant with a nice shine to it. This even black layer in combination with the contrasting gold and silver tones gives the hirobuta a striking and wondrous appearance.

In its original signed wooden tomobako (storage-container).
Taishō period (1912-1926).
