Attractive black lacquer footed basin 耳盥 (mimidarai) with two lobed ears. The belly at both sides are decorated with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief design) of swirling foliage, bamboo and at the centre a crest depicting three swirling commas 三ツ巴 (mitsudomoe). The rim is accentuated with a golden line. The bowl stand on a tapered foot.

Period: Edo Period (1600-1868)

H. 15.6 cm, W. 39 cm, D. 32 cm.

Including original wooden marked tomobako 供箱 (storage box).

It is in a very good condition.

The mimidarai, literally “eared basin” due to the handles’ shape, was part of a larger teeth blackening set.
