Lacquered headdress stand 冠卓 (kanmuri’shoku)
Price on request
A refined two-tiered lacquered Court headdress table stand 冠卓 (kanmuri’shoku), decorated with an expansive landscape in gold and silver maki-e 蒔絵 on a black lacquer ground.
The broad upper surface depicts a vast waterside landscape with temple complexes nestled along the shore, small boats on the open water and distant mountain peaks partially enveloped by swirling clouds. The composition continues across the lower tier, where a pagoda rises on a rocky outcrop opposite a weeping willow tree 柳 (yanagi).
The decoration is executed predominantly in hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief sprinkled lacquer) in various shades of gold and silver, with nashiji 梨子地 details and sparse gold flecking across the dark lacquer ground.
The table is raised on four slightly spreading feet, with silver linings along the underside of the feet. The side supports are pierced with stylised flame-shaped openings.
Complete with its original wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box), inscribed: “Landscape maki-e kanmuri’shoku.” 山水蒔絵冠卓. Kanmuri are traditional caps worn by Shinto clergy and courtiers.
