Object by the Nitten artist Yokoyama Yukifumi

Price:  460,00

A lacquered abstract decorative piece by the Nitten artist Yokoyama Yukifumi 横山幸文 (1942–2002).

This artwork is characterized by its tall, slender, and sleek rectangular form that tapers slightly towards the top. The upper section is highly polished and reflective, transitioning into a richly adorned lower section with a complex, colourful textured pattern. This pattern resembles a grass or moss-coloured cliff extending over a sea with ripples and splashes of water at its base, indicated by tiny pieces of encrusted mother of pearl.

The front side is flat, vertically oriented, and features sharp edges with a predominantly polished surface adorned with a polychrome design. Rendered in hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) on a glossy black substrate, it also features small pieces of inlaid mother of pearl. In contrast, the backside is arched and has a textured faux-leather lacquered finish.

The bottom side signed in red lacquer ‘Yukifumi’ 幸文.
