Beautiful lacquer tea caddy 棗 (natsume) with an intricate covering design of cherry blossoms 桜 (sakura) and autumn leaves 紅葉 (momiji) intricately caught in a wire mesh. The mesh is intentionally interrupted in two places, creating the illusion of subtle damage.

Executed in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) with a slight red undertone, on a glossy black substrate.
The interior and underside finished with the same even black lacquer.

Including original signed & sealed wood tomobako 供箱 (storage box) attributing this natsume to the artist Wada Kinsai II 二代和田瑾斎 (active 20th century).
A graduate of Kanazawa College of Art and Crafts in lacquer art, this artist boasts an impressive resume. Recognized with top honours at the Ishikawa Prefecture Industrial Arts Exhibition and the Grand Prix at the Big Yamanaka Exhibition, their works have graced esteemed venues like Ginza Matsuya and Ikebukuro Seibu. Participating in major exhibitions such as Nitten and Japan Craft Exhibition further highlights their prominence in the Japanese art scene.
