Very high quality hirobuta 広蓋 (presentation tray) with rounded corners featuring shiny black lacquer decorated with a multi-coloured hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design) of a full branch of lespedeza 萩 (hagi) placed behind a tall black eboshi 烏帽子 (headgear worn by nobles) and a closed folding fan 扇子 (sensu).
With original black lacquered tomobako 供箱 (transport box) with inscription in red lacquer.
Hirobuta 広蓋 served as a tray for formal presentation to present gifts or other items, like a kimono or business cards.

Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926).
